Your Journey to Rote Begins Here

Rote Island awaits, offering a tranquil escape in the heart of Indonesia. Though remote, Rote is worth the journey. Here’s everything you need to know about getting there.

Getting to Rote: Your First Step

Your journey to Rote begins with a flight to Kupang, the capital of Timor.

From Jakarta or Bali, you’ll catch a direct flight to Kupang. The flight from Bali takes approximately 2 hours. Once in Kupang, you’ll have several options to reach Rote.

Additional Tips for a smooth journey

  • Luggage allowance: Commercial flights to Rote typically allow 10 kg of luggage. Surfboards incur additional fees: around IDR 200,000 (Lion/Batik/Super Air Jet), IDR 1,000,000 (Wings Air), or up to IDR 774,250 for extra boards on Susi Air. If you’re traveling with surfboards or oversized gear, the ferry is likely a more cost-effective option.

  • Ferry scheduleThe fast ferry departs daily at 09:00 AM and returns from Rote at 12:00 PM, while the slow ferry departs daily around 3:30 PM and arrives in Rote in the evening. Plan your trip accordingly, especially during busy or windy seasons.
